About the Author
Andrew B. Arnold received his MA and PhD in U.S. History from the University of North Carolina a t Chapel Hill. He is an Associate Professor of History at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, where he has taught since 2002.

too bad more of us do not know a damned thing ...

99% percent of voters should have one and perhaps, albeit it may be small, a portion of them may become enlightened and require more than exaggerations, shock-entertainment and play on their fears or prejudices by candidates. This country is a masterpiece in human history; too bad more of us do not know a damned thing about the principles of its foundation. Recommended, of course.

Timely and helpful book

Professor Arnold's pithy book is excellent. I took Constitutional Law in Law School, yet I can say that this slender book fills in gaps my thick legal textbooks never addressed. As an attorney, people ask me about contitutional items in the news, so I was thankful to procure Arnold's book to help me have a clue what I'm talking about. This book is not only a refresher course on the Constitution, but it draws helpful connections between different parts of the Constitution, history, and modern constitutional debates. I also appreciate its conciseness as it allows me to quickly find what I need even during my legal work. Now, when I draw a blank on my constitutional memory, I just peek in this guide. Anyway, I'm very happy with my purchase.

good intro to what the Constitution is and does

tl;dr: Perfect for regular people who are curious about Constitutional history. Not particularly helpful for clueless law students.
I got this because I wanted a pocket Constitution that wasn't some sort of religious and/or NRA propaganda, which apparently a lot of these annotated Constitutions are. I wanted something annotated because as I began outlining for my Con Law class, I realized that I pretty much slept through everything that happened in Constitutional history before the Civil War. This book is well written and very informative, and I did actually use it on my exam, but I think if I had to go back in time, I would have saved my money. There's really no shortcuts, particularly for a law class that's so history heavy. BUT if you're not a law student and are looking for a good overview of Constitutional history and a possible jumping off point for research into particular areas, this is a handy little book. I didn't think it deserved to be docked stars because I don't think it's meant to stand up to a 1L Con Law class.
